SPAN 101: Basic Spanish for Beginners
Welcome to SLANG Global’s Online Spanish and Cultures Pilot Cohort, a 4-week virtual learning experience designed for students who want to begin learning Spanish while also exploring culture, history, and identity across Latin America and the African diaspora.
This course is not just about vocabulary and grammar. It is also about connection. Students will be introduced to very basic Spanish through a live online class led by a teacher with a Hispanic background who will also share personal experiences, cultural knowledge, and reflections on life in Latin America. The course will also highlight connections between Latin America, the African diaspora, and West Africa, making this a unique learning experience rooted in language, culture, and global understanding.
Each class is designed to be light, welcoming, and accessible. Students can expect beginner-level Spanish instruction, cultural conversation, simple assignments, and selected readings or videos that support what is discussed in class.

If you enjoyed Spanish 101 or found that you were ready for a greater challenge, continue your learning with Spanish 102 or Spanish 103. These courses offer the same welcoming, community-centered experience, combining practical Spanish instruction with meaningful cultural exploration. Our experienced instructors, based in countries such as Cuba, Mexico, Guatemala, Colombia, and Spain, teach more than vocabulary and grammar. They also share their cultures, perspectives, and lived experiences. Alongside like-minded learners, you will strengthen your Spanish while exploring the African diaspora and developing a deeper understanding of the diverse communities that shape the Spanish-speaking world.
SPAN 102 is designed for learners who have completed SPAN 101 or already have a basic foundation in Spanish. Students will expand their vocabulary, strengthen their understanding of grammar, and become more confident speaking, listening, reading, and writing in Spanish.
Lessons continue to connect language with culture, history, and identity through engaging conversations and learning materials.
Same Terms as Spanish 101; Just a higher level.
SPAN 103 offers a greater challenge for students who are comfortable with foundational and intermediate Spanish. The course helps learners communicate with more detail and confidence through increasingly complex conversations, readings, listening activities, and written work.
